AI shopping agent

An AI shopping agent is an AI assistant that acts on a shopper's behalf — researching options, comparing products, filling carts, and increasingly completing checkout. Agentic shopping shifts the buying decision to software that only recommends products it can read, verify, and transact against.

In context

Shopping agents extend answer engines from advice to action: ChatGPT’s shopping features, Perplexity’s buy-with-Pro flow, and agent checkout protocols all point the same direction. An agent picking between two similar products doesn’t browse hero images — it compares machine-readable attributes, availability, pricing, and trust signals.

That makes catalog legibility a revenue question, not a marketing one. A product an agent can’t parse is a product an agent can’t buy. The groundwork is the same as for GEO: open crawler access, structured data, and enriched product attributes.
