Generative Search Optimization (GSO)

Generative Search Optimization (GSO) is a synonym for Generative Engine Optimization (GEO): optimizing content and product data so generative AI search systems can understand, recommend, and cite it. Different teams use GSO, GEO, or AEO — the practice is the same.

In context

The discipline is young enough that the name hasn’t settled. “GEO” (generative engine) is the most common, “AEO” (answer engine) emphasizes the answer format, and “GSO” (generative search) shows up in some agency and enterprise vocabularies. If you’re evaluating vendors or reading industry coverage, treat them as one category.
